Artificial Intelligence
The artificial intelligence was first mentioned in 1956. Back then seemed like an unrealistic idea, but in the past 50 years began developing. The artificial intelligence draws attention increasingly more because knowledge-based systems, systems based on genetic algorithms, fuzzy systems, neural systems and hybrid systems are artificial intelligence systems about to play an increasingly important role in the future.
Artificial Intelligence – an area of ongoing interest
The artificial intelligence is an area that has the purpose of developing machines, computers that are able to solve problems for which conventional methods aren’t efficient. What its developers want from this domain is to develop a skill of “thinking”, “to reason” and therefore to allow the program to automatically develop appropriate algorithm in different encountered situations. It has two basic ideas: studying human mind to understand how it works and, the second one, it is related to human mind and the representation of its processes. Also, there are two different approaches for this: the first one is “top-down approach” and the second one is “symbolic approach to artificial intelligence” (considers that any intelligent system is a physical symbol processing). There were three time periods in its evolution: the first period was represented by games and theories demonstration; the second one consisted in understanding the natural language and the third one was represented by evolved expert systems.
Artificial intelligence aims ideally to learn how machines can develop intelligence similar to humans. In measuring the machine’s intelligence is used the Turing test. But in the near future no computer can pass it. The history of artificial intelligence actually talks about its accomplishments. For a long time, this discipline was maintained in the experiments area but, recently, its researches began to be regarded with interest by industry, mainly due to expert systems.
